I love consecutive sudoku...By: Staceym [26-November-09 8:52PM] 83 posts |

My favourite puzzle at the moment is definitely consecutive sudoku.
Just came across this site, and am excited to see that there is a magazine of them here, will download it in a minute
Great idea too, as it's really hard to find several puzzles that I like.
There's one that I think is called sikaku (or maybe it's shikaku), I really like that too, so would be great to have a collection of them here in the future!

Would it be unfair of me to ask for another Consecutive Sudoku magazine?
I finished that first one quite some time ago now, and it seems from other comments here that there is at least one other person that likes this puzzle.
Obviously I don't know if it is "worth" adding another one in terms of time it would take as I guess it's not a very well known variant, but if you did create another one you would have at least one sale

There don't seem to have been any new magazines here for about a month now... I know I'm impatient but they were flowing thick and fast last year, I could really do with that new consecutive sudoku pllllllllease

I'll second your request Stacey! I also downloaded the first consecutive magazine and loved it so would definitely buy another one! It also counts amongst one of my favourite puzzle types.

Hello all,
It has been a little quiet this year in terms of magazines, this is largely because last year was spent busily adding loads of new magazine types, so there are less new types to add now
Also because most of these magazines - in fact the vast majority - are quite niche puzzle types, not many people have played them before. Which means not many people search for them, and as a result download levels are very low compared to what you would probably get for more common puzzles such as wordsearch or crosswords. Many 'lesser known puzzle' magazines therefore sell in single figures.
However, when there are specific requests for second issues of a magazine, it's great to hear. And so you'll be pleased to know that a second collection of Consecutive Sudoku puzzles has just been added -

Thanks for the second issue of consecutive sudoku Puzzlemags, which I have just downloaded and am lookiing forward to getting stuck into! Just wanted to let you know that your efforts are appreciated especially as it would be so easy not to bother if sales are low due to the 'niche' market as you say. Another magazine I subscribed to - Sudoku Pro - has just folded so that's another puzzle source disappeared.
Just as an afterthought - another of my favourite puzzle types is non-consecutive sudoku - might be an idea for a magazine or part of a variety mag at some point in the future.
Anyway, am going to print out some of those consecutive puzzles now!

Thanks very much indeed Christine, that was quick... we've now met 50% of our sales target for the magazine
Thanks for the suggestion about non-consecutive sudoku. Do none of the cells in that puzzle type have consecutive values at all, or do some and others not with the use of some sort of marker between cells to indicate what type they are? Once I know exactly how the puzzle works I'm sure we can create something!
Sorry to hear about the magazine Sudoku Pro folding, there seem to be literally hundreds of puzzle magazines in the shops so I imagine (without any actual knowledge of the print-sales market) a large number of them live fairly close to the breakeven point.

With non-consecutive sudoku you never get any consecutive numbers at all, so for example if you have the number 6 in a cell, you know that the cells horizontally and vertiically adjacent to it cannot be either a 5 or a 7. Sounds quite simple, but they are another enjoyable variation.

Thanks Christine... I'll see what we can do!
We have also had a couple of requests for another futoshiki mag so we'll aim to get one of those up too soon.
There is an interesting trend from feedback we receive that, whilst there are a very small number of people who want each particular puzzle type, those that do tend to want several issues of a magazine. So, a small audience per puzzle type, but a large percentage of that small audience would like several issues of each magazine!
