New puzzle added - binary puzzles...

The observant amongst you may have noticed that there is now a total of 12 puzzle magazines linked to from the menu and on the homepage.

This is because the latest magazine has just been added, which is called the binary puzzle magazine. And that's because it contains 52 binary puzzles, one a week

If you've not come across the puzzle before, then you have to fill the grid with 0's and 1's such that each number occurs the same number of times in each row and column, the same digit does not appear in more than two consecutive cells, and that the set of rows and columns is unique.

They are all 8 x 8 puzzles. I don't anticipate many people will have played these before so it will be interesting to see if anyone buys the puzzle magazine and if so if they enjoy the puzzles.

Interesting...

Now I can definitely say that a binary puzzle is one that I have never heard of before.

I look forward to taking a look at it in more detail shortly.

My initial thoughts are that with only two options per cell I'm not sure it will be as interesting as something like sudoku but I guess I will soon find out!

Where did the idea for this one come for out of interest... is it something that you came up with here on this site or is it a puzzle that appears elsewhere?

OK I have now taken a look at the sample binary puzzles and solved them.

I found that they were quite a good solve and not too difficult... the hardest thing I think is going through each of the rows and columns and ensuring that there is no repetition, particularly when the first say ten or so cells are the same but then there is a difference towards the end, that is quite hard to keep track of.

Will be interesting to see if this puzzle type catches off and indeed I will look out for it in magazines and books etc!
