Top Three Least Favourite Puzzles...By: Gemma1 [27-May-10 3:51PM] 81 posts |

I know this might sound like a bit of a negative topic(!) but there are so many puzzles out there that it's surely only human that we like some puzzle types more than others.
So in that spirit I thought I would start a list of top three least favourite puzzles at the present time (my likes and dislikes do vary considerably over time).
1) Hitori: Definitely my least favourite now, it's dull and boring
2) Huge sudoku grid puzzles: Sorry, I don't have the time or energy to do a 36 x 36 sudoku or whatever the huge grids are
3) Enigma puzzle: this is one of those in Beyond Sudoku, and I just can't find it interesting!
So, what's your three least favourite puzzles? I might start a top three puzzles list in a few days to balance it out

Yes, I know what you mean Gemma - I am always on the look out for new types of number puzzles and love the variety but there are one or two that I just can't get interested in. In fact my top 2 are the same as yours:
1) Hitori
2) Any sudoku bigger than 9 x 9 - I just find them tedious rather than challenging,
3) Hashi - have done quite a few but can't get excited about them.

Personally I am not a fan of word puzzles, so my top three least favourite puzzles would be:
1) Wordsearch: great for children, but I think you should grow out of this puzzle at about age 12.
2) Letter fit puzzles: the ones where you have to fit the list of words in the grid, again I think these are for children although they seem popular with others.
3) I am going to pick one logic puzzle and say wraparound sudoku which is one I saw where the regions go around the edges of the puzzle if that makes any sense? Anyhow it was impossible and that turned me off.

I read that as top three puzzles at first, but in terms of my three least favourite puzzles I would say the following:
1) Crosswords: I am not a fan of word puzzles really
2) Huge puzzles of any sort: whether it is a very large sudoku or any other type of puzzle I don't like puzzles that I can't solve in one go. THat's why I never liked jigsaws - they take too long!
3) Killer sudoku and kakuro
... am I allowed to have two as my third choice? The reason is that I just don't like maths puzzles, I'm not very good at maths and never know where to start with these. As far as I can tell and particularly with kakuro you just have to try out lots of combinations until you find a mistake or get one that works, well that's not my idea of fun I'm afraid!

This is an interesting list - looks like we won't need to create a hitori collection anytime soon

This one is quote an easy one to do:
Most boring puzzle ever in the history of the world (I'm in exaggerate mood today is hitori
Second most boring puzzle I would give to kakuro: yes I can do maths but there are more fun maths type puzzles than this one
Third most boring I would give to any puzzle that takes more than half an hour to solve: I don't have the patience like many others have said here for those huge sudoku puzzles. The multi-grid ones aren't quite as bad but still I prefer smaller!
