World Puzzle Championships...

Apparently the World Puzzle Championships are happening next week somewhere in Poland!

There are lots of different teams taking part, which includes a team from the UK.

So hopefully they will do well... there is more about the event on the WPC website. Basically it looks like each country has a team of four players and also a captain and then there are individual rounds and group rounds. No idea if there is a prize for the winner or just the kudos of having come top!

Hi Gemma, yes the world puzzle championships did indeed happen this week!

If anyone is interested you can see the results at wpc2010.com/results

It appears to have been dominated by players from Japan, Germany and the USA. There was also a team competition that was won by the USA.

In the team competition the UK came 22nd out of 26th, and the highest placed UK finisher in the individual competition came 62nd of 105.

As for whether there is a prize for winning or not, I'm afraid I have no ideas.

I think some of the puzzles may get published after the event for curious individuals who want to tackle them, but I believe there is only one official entity that has the publishing rights to the puzzles in each country.

I'm afraid I've never heard of the world puzzle championships, or any puzzle championships for that matter!

I think I'll stick to my own modest but enjoyable solving level
