Colour puzzle magazine...By: Staceym [11-December-09 12:05AM] 83 posts |

I don't know if anyone else has asked this question yet but it could come up... will there be colour puzzle magazines at some stage?
I suppose this would be puzzles that actually need colour, I'm not sure how many of those there are.
Or it could be used to make things a little clearer for things like killer sudoku, sometimes the dotted regions on those can be a little confusing on the eye for instance so colour could be used instead.
I suppose it would make it more expensive for people to print, but anyway just an idea!

Hi Stacey
I know there hasn't been a response to this question yet, but I too like the idea of a colour magazine.
I realise that not everyone has a colour printer, but these days I think more and more people do: after all you can get a cheap colour printer for almost the same price as a black and white one these days and in the regino of £30 so there is no real barrier to entry - and particularly since it just needs to show colour it doesn't need to be great quality or waste a lot of ink.
I think there are lots of puzzles that benefit from colour and are hard to play without it: things like sudoku with confusing regions the colours can help you work out how they fit together, as well as of course puzzles that actually need it such as a colour hanjie or puzzles where the answers are based on the colours in the puzzle itself.

Colour magazines sound like a good idea to me.
Even when the puzzle doesn't require colour sometimes it can help to make things look a little more interesting and cheerier.
I think they would have to be done quite cleverly though so as not to waste ink, in other words have colour where it enhances rather than for the sake of it. As an example setting the background of a page to a light yellow just to use colour wouldn't achieve anything and just wastes ink!

Any news on this, I think it would be really fun to have some colour puzzles! As an obvious idea for a colour one you could have a puzzle like the one that is the profile picture image thing on here - the offset sudoku puzzle I think it has been referred to... there are lots of puzzles that either work better or actually require it.
Of course the best one I suppose would be something like colour hanjie puzzles but I know from other posts on here that these can be really time consuming to make so might not be a possible option at the low price the puzzle magazines here at sold at, and I have no idea in what quantity they do either!

I don't want to disagree for the sake of it, but I've never particularly found that magazines that ARE in colour make particularly good use of it.
I mean ok some puzzles look, well, more colourful in colour, but the majority of puzzles don't actually *need* colour.
Therefore whilst a colour puzzle book or magazine would be fine it isn't top of the list of things I would like to see!
