Skeleton Crossword Magazine
Welcome to this magazine of skeleton crosswords, released in September 2020.
If you like tough crosswords, then this is the magazine for you!
This brand new magazine features 50 skeleton crosswords. If you're new to the puzzle type, then this is how it works: as per the image to the right of this page, each puzzle starts with a crossword grid with clues underneath it. However, unlike a standard crossword, you have to work out what the grid looks like at the same time as solving the clues, it is not already in place as with a standard crossword.
How do you do this? By answering the clues and using the symmetry. All the grids in this book exhibit standard rotational symmetry: this means that if the third square on row one of the grid is shaded black, for instance, then the third square from the end of the final row of the grid is also shaded black, and so forth. Therefore you can use the information given at the start of each puzzle - some black squares and some numbered squares - to work out where other black squares and white squares must be placed in the grid.
You should use this information in conjunction with the clues under the grid to help you get started. You might like to write words that you think are most likely to be the answers to each of the clues alongside them, and then work out what the implications for the grid would be if that were your answer. By cross-referencing the grid structure, your possible clue answers and going back and forth, you can gradually build up the symmetrical grid, and write in the answers to the clues.
However, these are tricky puzzles, so you'll need all your crossword solving skills to successfully tackle these puzzles. We've included all the answers at the back. So, if you like skeleton crossworsd, then you can be playing these puzzles in minutes if you have a printer to hand - give them a go, and see how you get on!
