As the question has been posed, my favourite puzzle is probably nurikabe. Although the tricky ones can be a little imposing and hard to get started with!
It is also an interesting puzzle to make because to create a puzzle that is fun to solve is a delicate balance of providing just the right amount of information to solve the puzzle without having to guess or think an unreasonable amount of time ahead, whilst also of course ensuring that there is only one solution.
The best nurikabe puzzles are undoubtedly hand generated; those that come out of a computer generator tend to be rather formulaic and not as interesting or subtle as those that are created by hand. It is interesting how some puzzles suit themselves much more (or less) to computer generation; a really good nurikabe really does seem to need to be made by hand.
